Longleat House is one of the best examples of
high Elizabethan architecture in the UK and became the first stately home in England to
open its doors to the public in 1949.
It also became in 1966 the first location
outside Africa to open a drive-through safari park with its now famous 'Lions of
      Longleat'.
The Longleat railway is a scaled down
re-creation of the Age of Steam transporting visitors around the park.  Glasgow Steel Nail Co supplied traditional cut
rail spikes adding authenticity to the railtrack scene.
