REPLICA

Utrecht State Yacht

The building of the Utrecht State Yacht is an historic reconstruction of a ship from 1746 based on a design in the possession of the Maritime Museum in Rotterdam.

The project is being used as an employment training programme to help maintain traditional skills in Holland.

State Yachts were official ceremonial ships excessively decorated to match the status of their owners. Their shape was derived from war-ships from those days.

Started in 1997, the launch is due to take place in 2003.  Glasgow Steel Nail Co supplied traditional boat nails for the project.
